An off-duty EasyJet pilot was heading on vacation with his family, but ended up flying the plane they were traveling on due to a missing pilot.
The EasyJet flight was due to depart from Manchester to Alicante on September 2nd, 2019, however, due to effects of the French air traffic control failure on Sunday the pilot was stuck at home in Liverpool.
Passengers were informed of the delay to their flight, so Michael Bradley (an EasyJet pilot traveling with his family on this flight) called his employer and asked if they would like him to get everyone to Alicante. 30 seconds later, they called him back and said “yes”.
A spokesperson for EasyJet confirmed these events by saying they were fully in line with regulations, as the pilot had his flying license and pilot’s ID with him.
